PSE&G Upgrades Electric Facilities in Essex County

New Lines from Belleville Switching Station Will Ensure Safe, Reliable Service.

Public Service Electric & Gas Co. (PSE&G), New Jersey’s largest utility, is upgrading electric transmission facilities at its Belleville Switching Station and its Branch Brook Substation as part of PSE&G’s continued commitment to modernizing its infrastructure. The work, which begins this week, will ensure continued safe, reliable electric service for area residents and businesses. No service disruptions are anticipated.

As part of the project, two new 69,000-volt lines will be installed to connect the Belleville Switching Station to the Branch Brook Substation, significantly improving capacity and greatly enhancing redundancy for electric service reliability. The 69,000-volt lines and the existing 26,000-volt lines will be carried by new, taller utility poles, replacing existing poles. The new poles will be placed in the same locations to minimize the impact on traffic and Belleville residents .The work is scheduled for completion by June 2014.

PSE&G Warns Customers About Payment Scam

PSE&G is alerting its customers not to be defrauded by a scam in which individuals misrepresenting themselves as PSE&G employees threaten to turn off electric and gas service if payment is not made to them that day.

The scam, which has been reported across the country, involves payments using Green Dot MoneyPaks and seems to be targeting Hispanic neighborhoods in PSE&G’s service territory. As noted on the MoneyPak packaging and on the company’s Web site, to protect themselves from fraud, consumers should treat the MoneyPak like cash and only use the MoneyPak number with businesses on their approved partner list. The Township of Belleville Strongly Advises Belleville Residents to Conserve Water

Residents and businesses in the 48 North Jersey cities and towns served by the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission wastewater treatment system are strongly encouraged to minimize water use to reduce stress on the storm-damaged sewage treatment system and help limit partially treated effluent flowing into Newark and New York Harbor.

The PVSC, which serves 1.4 million customers in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union counties, is working closely with the state Department of Environmental Protection, federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to repair damage caused by severe flooding and power outages that has limited the level of treatment of the 240 million gallons a day of wastewater that normally flows through this facility.
