Wawa & Peruvian Food Truck Join Business Community in Belleville

The Township – already known as a dining destination for foodies hungry for fine fare, ethnic flavors or just a quick bite – now has two new options.
Mayor Michael Melham donned a apron and went right to work, making the ceremonial first hoagie on Aug. 27 when Belleville’s first Wawa opened for business on Franklin Avenue.
The chain, with more than 900 stores in the United States with a concentration on New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Florida, is known for its sandwiches, soups, wraps and other grab-and-go items. Some menu items are available premade, others are prepared in minutes.
Melham is also pleased to welcome the Township’s first food truck.
The Lomo Truck, operated by Belleville’s Cesar Valdivia, offers authentic Peruvian cuisine Wednesday through Sunday in the Township.
As the truck’s name suggests, Valdivia’s signature dish is lomo saltado – top sirloin beef strips sautéed in red onions and plum tomatoes and served with French fries.
“Traditionally, you serve it over white rice,” Valdivia explained. “But we switch it up. You can do it with chicken fried rice, you can do it with beef hot dog, you can do it with cream spaghetti, which is like a Peruvian pesto.”
Melham and Township Manager Anthony Iacono were on hand Aug. 26, 2020 when Lomo Truck opened on Jorelemon Street. Valdivia said he sold out of food by 5:30 p.m. that day.
“I am proud to open this truck in Belleville,” said Valdivia, whose brother runs a second Lomo Truck in Paterson. “We feel very welcomed here and people really love our food. It is traditional Peruvian food that we serve with our own special twist.”
