Newly Paved Municipal Parking Lot Funded With Remaining Funds From Road Improvement Bond

Posted September 02, 2020

The Township’s newly paved municipal parking lot comes complete with some modern amenities, thanks to remaining funds from last year’s road improvement bond.

The lot on Washington Avenue has been repaved, directional arrows have been painted and the lines for the 23 spaces, including two spots for individuals with disabilities, have been sprayed.
The lot also features new lighting and a new pay station that will allow patrons to pay with coins, credit cards or via their smartphones.

“Between the potholes and the outdated meters, this lot was in desperate need of repair,” Mayor Michael Melham said. “Now, not only is the lot new, cleaner and brighter, but it is also considerably safer for Belleville residents and visitors.”

Township Manager Anthony Iacono said that remaining funds from last year’s road improvement bond were used to pay for the entire paving project at no additional cost to taxpayers.

In addition, a new pay station and new meters will soon be installed in the parking lot adjacent to Town Hall. The Township is planning to repave that lot as well, with a project timetable to be issued in the fall, Iacono said.
