Belleville Police Charge Man Sought in Connection with Crimes in Three Other Municipalities

Posted July 15, 2020

Belleville police have arrested an East Orange man following a brief chase in which he crashed into a patrol cruiser, a parked car and a tree.

Quinn Mayweather, 22, was arrested and charged with alluding police and receiving stolen property Monday at about 6:21 p.m., police said.

Acting on an alert from earlier in the day, Belleville police identified the grey 2011 Hyundai Sonata driven by Mayweather on Franklin Avenue.

He struck a patrol vehicle and continued south on Franklin Avenue. After a short chase, he crashed into a parked car and a tree, police said. That’s when officers arrested him.

Police said Mayweather was also wanted in connection to an alleged robbery in Clifton, alleged assault in Nutley and an alleged sexual assault in Bloomfield. Belleville police said all of the incidents took place during a spree Monday afternoon.

Police said the vehicle Mayweather was driving was reported stolen out of East Orange.

“I am proud of the officers for the diligence and professionalism they displayed during this unfortunate incident,” Belleville Police Chief Mark Minichini said.
