REQUIREMENTS FOR OBTAINING A MARRIAGE LICENSE FOR THE TOWNSHIP OF BELLEVILLE

(BY APPOINTMENT ONLY)

After all marriage arrangements have been made, please call 973-450-3400 or 973-450-3401 at least 30 days prior to your marriage date to set up an appointment for a license application. Please note that applications are taken Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:15 am to 12:30 pm and from 2:15 pm to 3:00 pm. 

• Must have name and phone number of person performing ceremony
• Date and place the marriage will take place
• Both bride and groom must apply in person
• Bride or groom must live in Belleville and show proof of residency
• Both bride and groom must have birth certificates, which should be translated if necessary
• If applicable, divorce papers, death certificates or certificate of civil union or domestic partnership must be presented
• Bring one witness when you apply who knows both of you, is 18 years of age or older, is able to read, write and understand English, and has proper ID with address
• There is a three (3) day waiting period from the day of application
• License may only be used in the state of new jersey within 30 days of issue
• Marriage License Application Fee $28.00 - Must be given in two separate money orders in the amounts of $25.00 and $3.00
