Important Information

  • Pre-Registration is required for all programs

  • Only Belleville Residents can participate

  • Birth Certificate and Proof of Residency must be produced

  • All programs are free of charge

  • Completed application must be signed by parent/guardian

  • There will be specific dates for each respective program to register; notices will be in schools, newspapers and WBHS station

 
Belleville Fourth of July Activities

The Belleville Recreation Department announces that this year, Independence Day celebration here in town will be held on Friday July 4th, 2008.

The festivities will start with the Recreation Department’s annual field day for youngsters, ages 4 – 12 at the Municipal Stadium starting promptly at 9:30 AM.

The events, which will be open to all young Belleville residents, will be divided into three categories. There is a Junior division for ages 4 – 6; an Intermediate division for ages 7 – 9; and a Senior division for ages 10 – 12.

Events will include the 25, 50 and 100-yard dash, an agility race, a three-legged race, sack race, a girl’s tug-of-war and a boy’s tug-of-war.

All activities will be conducted by the members of the Belleville Recreation playground staff. Ribbons will be awarded to the first, second and third place finishers and all will share in slices of watermelon.

On Friday night, July 4th, a fireworks display will be presented at the Stadium starting at sundown (approximately 9:15 PM). The rain date for these events will be Saturday, July 5th.

On July 4th, there will also be a Pre-Fireworks show beginning at 6:30 PM at the Municipal Stadium. This year’s entertainment will include continuous music by a disc jockey, as well as the following performances:

Kids in Motion    7:15 PM
Magic Show – Featuring Joe Fischer 8:00 PM

Sand Art and Spin Art will also be offered for a nominal fee, as well as refreshments / concessionaires.

In all, it promises to be an exciting holiday and Bellevillities young and old are invited to share in the glitter of our country’s historic day.

Applications are available at the Recreation House, 407 Joralemon Street ( Office Hours from 8:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m.).

Girls who are going into grades 3 – 8 in September may apply.

Deadline is July 25, 2008  No applications will be accepted after that date.

Wheel-A-Thon and Community Walk

The Tour de Belleville professional cycling event.

 With a street fair, walk, rides, food and music.

The Belleville Recreation Department and Premiere Cycling Promotions are bringing back a professional cycling event to Belleville after a 30 year absence. The fair and start/finish line is on the corner of Mill Street and Union Avenue.

The event will feature a professional cycling race, with participants from all over the country competing for the Tour de Belleville championship.

Children’s rides, festival, refreshments, plus a two mile fun walk through the beautiful cherry blossoms of Branch Brook Park.

The amateur races run from 9:00 A.M.  to 11:00 A.M. We plan a citizen race prior to the start of the pro event which goes off at 11:30 A.M. finishing at 1:30 P.M. The fair will run until 4:00 P.M.

The walk through the park is free. Donations will be accepted by the Branch Brook Park Alliance.

Senior Aerobics Program

Under the direction of Recreation Director, Fred (Chick) Puleo, the Belleville Recreation Department has instituted a Senior Aerobics Program.

Jennifer Apicella- Belleville High School great basketball player, held the state high school scoring record for years. Abdel Anderson- Belleville High School All-State basketball player, played for Rutgers in NCAA Final Four game in 1979
