Belleville Water Department Reporting of Corrective Action Following an Assessment of the Distribution System
Posted May 06, 2020We routinely monitor for the presence of drinking water contaminants and our water system detected coliform bacteria in the distribution system. When this occurs, we are required to conduct a detailed assessment to identify problems and to correct any problems that are found. The Belleville Water Department found no sanitary defects during the assessment, however, we failed to report our corrective actions by January 10, 2020 as required under the Revised Total Coliform Rule.
As our customers, you have a right to know what happened and what we are doing to correct this situation. During September 2019 we detected coliform bacteria in our distribution system. This was the 9th time we found coliform bacteria in our samples in a 12-month monitoring period; therefore, we were required to conduct a detailed assessment and compete corrective actions to address the sanitary defects found. Although the Belleville Water Department did not identify any sanitary defects during the detailed assessment, the Bureau of Safe Drinking Water identified concerns during a site visit that were required to be addressed..
