Township Drinking Water Update

The Township routinely monitors for the presence of drinking water contaminants.  In September 2007, the Township took forty (40) samples to test for coliform bacteria.  Eight (8) of those samples showed the presence of coliform bacteria.  The standard is that no more that two (2) samples may do so.

This was not an emergency.  The Township did follow-up testing to see if other bacteria of greater concern, such as fecal coliform or E. coli, were present.  We did not find any of these bacteria in our subsequent testing.

In addition, the water system was checked for sources of possible bacteria contamination, and none were found.  We believe the problem was contamination on the sampling bottles forwarded to the testing laboratory.  Further testing shows that this problem has been resolved.

The Township’s potable water supply and water distribution system are not contaminated
